Welcome to Unity Toastmasters!
Growing Powerful Speakers since 1982
Why Visit Unity Toastmasters? If you’re interested in growing your speaking and leadership skills in a diverse, nurturing, and friendly environment, you’ve come to the right place!
What is Toastmasters? Since 1924, more than 4 million people around the world have joined Toastmasters to become more confident speakers and leaders. How? The only way to develop your speaking and leadership skills is to speak and to lead. At Toastmasters, we all have opportunities to speak and to lead the club, through our weekly meetings and special events. Weekly Meetings A Unity Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop, where participants grow their speaking and leadership skills in a relaxed and encouraging setting. In a typical meeting, 3 to 4 members give speeches. There is no instructor at Toastmasters meetings. Instead, we take turns evaluating each other’s speeches, providing members the opportunity to give and receive positive and constructive feedback about the speaker’s strengths and potential areas of improvement. Between the speeches and evaluations, we have a round of short, impromptu talks (based on prepared prompts or questions) called Table Topics. They help us practice off the cuff speaking and "elevator" moments. We vote on the best speaker, evaluator, and table-topic presenter for each week, and finish with a round of applause and hugs for the winners. The meetings are uplifting, energized, and fun! Special Events We also have lots of special events: we have biannual contests in serious and humorous speaking, as well as in table topics and evaluating (where winners can advance all the way to the world championship); we host occasional special meetings, like debates, poetry readings, speech marathons, and special training workshops, and we have fun, too, with our annual picnic, holiday party, and spring graduation ceremony! Toastmasters also hosts regional, national, and international contests and conferences where members meet to learn and grow. Afters Frequently, whoever is available will meet a a local diner after the meeting to socialize, tell bad jokes, and talk more about the speeches and what we've learned. Come see how much Unity Toastmasters can do for you! |
